The air crackles with unspoken tension, a silent promise of violence waiting to erupt. Two guards, lulled by the mundane, joke about the "devil" they're guarding against tonight, a hitman named Zero. One boasts, "A single bullet to the head... and he's a dead—" His words are brutally cut short by a bullet hole appearing in his skull. Then another. Zero isn't a whisper in the dark; he's the thunder, a force of nature whose presence is marked by immediate, lethal efficiency. He's a man of absolute principle, as Gerald Hurst, his target, discovers when Zero refuses a fifty-million-dollar bribe, stating with chilling resolve, "I don't break my word." This introduction paints Zero as the apex predator, a legend in the grim world of assassins, until his own "retirement party" ends in a building explosion, leaving him dead.
But death, it turns out, is just a new beginning. Zero wakes up, not in his own body, but as Liam, a nineteen-year-old orphan in a world ripped straight from his favorite comic books. Superheroes and villains, "Awakened Humans" wielding "Factors" fueled by "Pragma," are real. The original Liam's life was a stark contrast to Zero's: broke, responsible for two younger siblings, Eli and Lea, and burdened by a "useless" Factor of Creation called Genesis. This is where the cheat triggers: Zero's lifetime of tactical genius, scientific knowledge (especially poisons), and ruthless pragmatism merge with Liam's dormant, incredibly versatile Factor. The original Liam's low Pragma limited Genesis, but Zero's understanding of its mechanics – creating anything he could imagine, with less Pragma cost for known objects – unlocks its true, terrifying potential. The trigger that forces this new, terrifying combination into action isn't a grand conspiracy, but the mundane, desperate plea of his new sister, Lea: Eli and she are hostages in a school, threatened by a villain group called the Splinters. The legendary hitman, now a struggling older brother, is back in the game, forced to apply his old world's brutal logic to this new, powered reality.
I don't break my word.
The Reincarnated Hitman
Zero, the world's greatest hitman, is a ghost and a force of nature, proven by his swift, brutal assassination of Gerald Hurst and his unwavering refusal to compromise his contracts. He's the ultimate professional, a man whose word is his bond, even if that bond means death for his target. This reputation is shattered when his own "retirement party" culminates in a building explosion, leaving him seemingly dead. But he wakes up. Not in his old body, but as Liam, a nineteen-year-old orphan in a world of superheroes and villains, a world he only knew from comics. This new Liam is burdened by debt and the responsibility of his younger siblings, Lea and Eli, and possesses a nearly useless Factor of creation called Genesis, hampered by low Pragma. Zero, however, quickly realizes his hitman's knowledge can weaponize Genesis. The mundane suddenly turns deadly when Lea calls, whispering that she and Eli are hostages at school. Zero, now Liam, is forced to re-enter a world of violence, but this time, the stakes are personal, driven by the desperate need to protect his newfound family.
Reborn as Liam, legendary hitman Zero merges his deadly skills with a dormant creation Factor to save his kidnapped siblings.
Liam, now fully embracing Zero's mindset, infiltrates Westfield Integrated School to rescue his siblings. He systematically neutralizes the Splinter henchmen, demonstrating his tactical brilliance and adaptability by using custom-created rubber bullets and cunning to incapacitate them. His confrontation with Titan, a Delta-class villain with passive hardening, highlights his ingenuity; he exploits Titan's need to be aware of attacks by using distractions and precise, unexpected strikes. He rescues Lea and Eli, but the credit is publicly claimed by the Beta-class hero Volt, setting up a classic unseen hero scenario. This act, however, catches the attention of Sable, a prominent Grey Market agent (mercenary recruiter), who observes Liam's raw, un-Awakened combat prowess and offers him a contract. Liam, pragmatic and in desperate need of money for his siblings, accepts, officially returning to his assassin roots in this new, powered world.
Liam's hitman skills and creation Factor shine as he rescues his siblings, covertly defeating a villain and accepting a Grey Market contract.
Zero takes his first Grey Market contract: eliminating Richard Cross, an information broker trafficking Awakened Humans. He faces a gauntlet of powered guards, including Backlash (force-doubling Factor) and Noa (Factor-nullifying). Zero's meticulous preparation pays off: he uses custom-formulated neuro-strychnine bullets to bypass Backlash's defense, and he pre-emptively neutralizes Richard's sniper. Even Noa's ability, which renders his Genesis useless, doesn't save Richard, as Zero's cunning and physical skill are enough. The contract is fulfilled, but not without consequence. Noa, who had a hidden tracker, is immediately kidnapped by the Argent Ring, the villain group Richard worked with. This leads directly to Lea's abduction, a brutal emotional gut-punch for Zero, who blames himself for the oversight. Detective Riley, Sable's ex and a Gamma-ranked hero with a versatile Simulation Factor, is drawn into the crisis, forcing Zero to work with a hero to save his sister from a powerful and dangerous organization.
Zero's first contract ends with a precise kill but leads to Lea's kidnapping, forcing him to partner with an unexpected hero.
Zero and Riley infiltrate the Argent Ring's base. Riley's Simulation Factor (creating illusions and swapping places) proves effective against Iris, a teleporter. Meanwhile, Zero confronts Ophion, the snake-like villain who poisoned Lea with Primagen, a fast-acting venom. Consumed by a cold fury, Zero systematically dismantles Ophion, bypassing his natural poison immunity with a custom-engineered, catalyst-activated neurotoxin, ensuring a slow, agonizing death. The brutal efficiency is a stark reminder of Zero's ruthless core. After collapsing from Ophion's venom, Zero recovers at Riley's home, and Lea is saved. This harrowing experience solidifies Zero's dedication to his new family. He uses his earnings to secure a luxurious new apartment, strategically located next to Olivia (Radiance), hinting at a deeper, long-term agenda. A seemingly innocent amusement park outing with his siblings and Olivia is shattered by an attack from Hypnos (mind control) and Erode (decay). Zero, immune to mind control due to his brutal training, is forced to act again, preparing to face powerful new threats while protecting his family and pursuing his hidden desires.
Zero's intense rescue of Lea solidifies his new family's importance, leading to strategic new beginnings and fresh threats.
Zero is Earth's legendary hitman, a man of lethal efficiency and unwavering principle, who is reincarnated into the body of Liam, a nineteen-year-old orphan in a superhero world. Initially a weak Awakened with a dormant Factor of Creation (Genesis), Zero's past life knowledge and ruthlessness unlock its true potential. He's driven by a desperate need to protect his new siblings, Eli and Lea, leading him to accept Grey Market contracts. His trump cards are his tactical genius, scientific knowledge (especially poisons), and the versatile Genesis Factor, which he constantly experiments with. Major plot turns include his school rescue, the assassination of Richard Cross, the brutal defeat of Ophion, and his strategic move to live near Olivia (Radiance).
Lea is Liam's sixteen-year-old younger sister, burdened by the loss of her parents and the responsibility Liam carries. She is observant and often suspicious of Liam's secretive actions but deeply loves and trusts him. Her kidnapping by the Argent Ring and subsequent poisoning is a major emotional catalyst for Liam. She awakens a healing Factor and is revealed to have Beta-ranked Pragma with Alpha potential, leading her to enroll in the Hero Academy. Her journey is about finding her own strength and identity, separate from Liam's protection, while still being a core emotional anchor for him.
Eli is Liam's ten-year-old youngest brother, whose innocence and enthusiasm provide much of the light-heartedness and emotional stakes in the story. He looks up to Liam as his "big brother" and is easily excited by the superhero world. His kidnapping alongside Lea is the initial catalyst that forces Zero (as Liam) to act. He's often the unwitting reason for Liam's "normal" interactions, such as attending the amusement park, and his simple observations can sometimes inadvertently reveal deeper truths about Liam's actions, though he doesn't understand them.
