Rain Bonteri is a man out of time and out of place. A human who once lived on Earth, he now commands a Munificent-class frigate in the navy of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, fighting a war he knows the ending to. The galaxy is vast, filled with droids and clones and Jedi, but the fundamental truths of the Star Wars saga are etched into his memory: the Sith control both sides, the war is a puppet show, and the Empire will rise. Yet knowing the plot does not make the reality any less brutal. The Separatist ships are designed by accountants, not warriors, with exposed conning towers and retina-burning green displays. The droids are mindless, the officers corrupt, and the war is grinding on with no end in sight. Rain survives by being smarter, by remembering tactics from a world that never knew hyperspace, and by treating his droid crew as people. He gives them names, defragments their personalities, and builds loyalty where none should exist. His flagship Repulse is a testament to his philosophy: a warship that has outlived its statistical lifespan because he cares for it. But his greatest asset is his knowledge of the future, a secret he guards with paranoia. He knows that Palpatine is the Sith Lord, that Dooku is a pawn, and that the Jedi are doomed. He also knows that if he plays his cards right, he might survive the coming storm. But survival is not the same as victory, and every battle he wins only deepens his entanglement in a conflict he cannot escape.
Sometimes, I really had to wonder why Separatist ships possess such exposed conning towers.

The battle begins with a routine blockade over the crystal world of Christophsis. Admiral Trench commands from the Invincible, but Rain chafes under his caution, proposing a pincer move to smoke out the Republic taskforce hiding behind the moon. Trench refuses, then a cloaked ship appears and torpedoes the flagship's bridge. Trench is incapacitated, and Rain receives the fleet command codes. He seizes the moment, reorganizing the chaotic Separatist fleet into a fighting force. He uses the Munificents' unique ventral firepower to exploit the Venators' blindspot, luring Obi-Wan Kenobi's cruisers into a trap. The Republic loses two Venators, Dauntless and Resolute, in a brutal display of tactical ingenuity. Rain rescues the clone survivors, citing the Yavin Code, and cements his reputation as a commander who values both victory and humanity. The battle ends with Christophsis secured for the Separatists, but Rain knows he has made enemies and allies in equal measure.
Rain proves his strategic brilliance by defeating Obi-Wan Kenobi and taking command after Trench's fall.
Rain is reassigned to a covert operation with Asajj Ventress, tasked with kidnapping Jabba the Hutt's son Rotta to frame the Jedi. The mission goes awry when Luminara Unduli arrives with overwhelming force. Rain executes a daring double gravity-assist slingshot maneuver to ambush the Republic fleet, sacrificing two of his frigates to buy time. Ventress fights the Jedi on the ground but ultimately fails to secure the Huttlet. Rain captures the Padawan Barriss Offee and convinces General Tann to keep her alive as a propaganda asset rather than turning her to the Dark Side. The mission is a failure in its primary objective, but Rain gains a valuable prisoner and the trust of Sev'rance Tann. He also earns Ventress's begrudging respect, though her hatred for the Jedi remains a volatile element.
Rain's unorthodox tactics and political maneuvering salvage a failed mission and gain him a new pawn.
As the Republic launches Operation Trident, Rain works to build the Perlemian Coalition, a military alliance of Separatist worlds. He uses the wargame ARENA to identify reliable officers and forge bonds. He blackmails Calli Trilm, uncovers Dooku's treasonous communications with Coruscant, and manipulates the Separatist Senate to block Dooku's nominee for Supreme Commander, General Grievous. The vote fails by five votes, buying time for Tann's return. Rain's political machinations put him directly in Dooku's crosshairs, but he has built a power base that cannot be easily crushed. The Coalition now controls hundreds of warships and the swing votes in the Senate. Rain is no longer just a captain; he is a warlord in all but name.
Rain outmaneuvers Dooku politically, blocking Grievous's appointment and forming a military bloc.
The Republic converges on Columex with two star dreadnoughts and over two thousand warships. Rain deploys his ultimate weapon: asteroids fired from civilian freighters using tractor beams, turning them into kinetic kill vehicles. The first volleys devastate the White Cuirass Fleet. But the battle turns desperate when the Pride of the Core jumps directly above Rain's fleet, savaging the White Hand. Barriss Offee, now on a Separatist ship, witnesses the carnage and struggles with her Jedi teachings. Sev'rance Tann arrives with the Second Fleet, boarding the Pride with Decimator tanks. Admiral Trench brings the Fourth Fleet and a Separatist dreadnought. The Republic is routed, but the victory is pyrrhic. Rain's asteroid cannon nearly backfires, and the cost in lives is staggering. The battle ends with the Separatists holding Columex, but the war is far from over.
The largest battle of the war ends in Separatist victory, but Rain's methods and the cost haunt him.
Rain is a human reincarnated from Earth into the Star Wars galaxy, using his knowledge of the films and modern military tactics to survive the Clone Wars. He commands the frigate Repulse and builds a reputation for unorthodox victories, from Christophsis to Columex. He treats droids as individuals, rescues enemy prisoners, and manipulates both Separatist and Republic politics to carve out a power base. His ultimate goal is to survive the rise of the Empire, but his actions increasingly tie him to the Separatist cause. He is haunted by the deaths he causes but remains focused on the long game.
A Chiss exile gifted with the Third Sight, Tann is one of the most brilliant military commanders in the galaxy. She serves Count Dooku but harbors her own ambitions for Supreme Commander. She recognizes Rain's value and protects him from Dooku's machinations, using him as a tool to advance her agenda. Her foresight allows her to predict enemy movements, but she struggles with politics and the Dark Side's influence. She leads the Second Fleet through Operation Sidestep and ultimately arrives at Columex to save the day, boarding a star dreadnought with Decimator tanks. Her loyalty is to herself and the Confederacy, not Dooku.
A Rattataki Dark Side adept, Ventress serves Count Dooku as a weapon against the Jedi. She works with Rain on the Teth mission, where her hatred for the Jedi clashes with his pragmatism. She captures Barriss Offee but is overruled by Tann, who keeps the Padawan alive. Ventress is a dangerous ally, prone to violence and suspicion, but she respects competence. Her personal vendetta against the Jedi Order drives her actions, and she remains a wild card in the Separatist hierarchy. She later redeploys to Christophsis to hunt Luminara Unduli.
