The gymnasium hummed with the weight of destiny as eighteen-year-olds pressed their palms against the awakening stone, their futures decided in seconds. For Moon, an orphan who had scraped by on part-time wages and dreams of becoming strong enough to avenge his parents, this ceremony was everything. His girlfriend Sarah sat beside him, though their relationship had been fraying for weeks, a cold distance growing between them that he had tried desperately to ignore. When her hands touched the stone and golden threads materialized above her, revealing the rare Lifebinder class, the applause was thunderous. She would have her pick of guilds, academies, and opportunities. Moon clapped along, genuine pride mixing with anxious hope for his own turn.
His turn came, and the stone remained dead under his palms. The instructor sighed, the word Null hanging in the air like a death sentence. Moon walked back to his seat in a daze, and Sarah looked at him the way one might look at a stranger who had stumbled on the street. She had been waiting for confirmation that he wasnt worth the effort of a proper goodbye. When Marcus Miller, the rich second-generation trash who had always antagonized Moon, invited her to join his party, she accepted without hesitation. Moon turned and walked away, refusing to give either of them the satisfaction of seeing him break. He went home to his cramped apartment, knowing that in three hours, the First Sanctuary would summon him, scan his worthless body, and spit him back to Earth as a confirmed Null.
But when the summoning came and the system scanned him, something went terribly wrong. Instead of being rejected, Moon received a status panel. He was Classless, an anomaly, free from the restrictions that bound every other awakener. His talent was Grim Reaper, granting five times the lives from every creature he killed. And his class skill allowed him to mirror any class he witnessed in action, learning its skills permanently through comprehension. The awakening orb hadnt malfunctioned. It simply couldnt recognize what he truly was. Moon stared at the panel, the crushing weight of his failure evaporating, replaced by something far more dangerous: the realization that he had been given the power to become anything.
You are an anomaly. Whilst everyone is tied to a class from their birth, you are free from the restrictions of the system.
SSS Awakening: I Can Class Change at will
Moon stood at the podium, his palms pressed against the awakening stone, willing it to respond with every fiber of his being. The seconds crawled past, each one a hammer blow to his hopes, until the instructor sighed and told him to step back. Null. The word echoed through the gymnasium as he returned to his seat, and Sarahs composed expression told him everything he needed to know. She had already made her choice, waiting only for confirmation that he was worthless before accepting Marcus Millers invitation to join his party. Moon watched her walk away without a word, refusing to give them the satisfaction of seeing him hurt. But when the summoning came at midnight and the system failed to reject him, Moon discovered the truth that would change everything: he was not a failure but an anomaly, gifted with the ability to mirror any class and multiply his lives by five. The world had branded him a Null, but the system had given him the keys to the kingdom.
Moons failure is revealed as a hidden blessing, granting him abilities beyond any normal awakener.
Moon and Selene stood at the entrance of the cave, the howling wind carrying the stench of death and the promise of danger. They had escaped Gareth, the cannibalistic awakener who had lured them to his den, but the frozen wasteland of the hidden realm offered no mercy. The bones scattered in the snow, the abandoned camp with its cryptic journal, and the looming temple carved into the mountains peak all pointed to a single truth: they were trapped in a death game where only the strongest survived. Moon had already died once, torn apart by an arctic bear, only to resurrect with his Grim Reaper talent replenishing his lives. He had copied Selene's Elemental Mage class, learned its skills permanently through relentless combat, and evolved his abilities with the lives he accumulated. Now, standing before the temple where the Heart of Winter awaited, Moon knew that the only way out was through. The figure on the throne watched them from the shadows, its six level fifteen wolves prowling at its feet, and the condition for escape was written in blood: ten survivors must become one.
Moon and Selene navigate a deadly realm, discovering the temples exit condition forces them to kill their own teammates.
Moon rode Mirage toward Ironpeak Base, the smoke rising from the walls telling him that something was terribly wrong. He had come to sell the elk he captured, to register as an awakener, and to continue his relentless grind toward power. Instead, he found the base under siege by a coordinated force of beasts and human traitors in black uniforms. The Mountain Bear, an S-Rank beast, led the assault alongside an assassin who had already killed the Base Lord multiple times. Moon joined the defense alongside Kael Glassy, the prodigy pyromancer from the Glassy family, and together they fought back the tide. But when the Base Lord fled, leaving the western gate to fall, Moon and Kael became the primary targets. Moon unleashed his evolved Explosive Flame, a skill he had copied from Kael and pushed to its limits, creating a fireball so powerful it stunned even the Mountain Bear. The assassin struck at Kael, but Moon intercepted with a lightning bolt that killed the masked killer instantly, earning five hundred lives for the solo kill. The battle raged on, and Moon fell unconscious, his body broken but his spirit unyielding.
Moon proves his worth in battle, earning the respect of a prodigy and the attention of the new Base Lord.
Moon woke in the infirmary, his body healed but his mind still reeling from the battle. He was summoned to meet the new Base Lord, and to his surprise, Kael Glassy sat behind the desk. The previous lord had fled, abandoning his post, and Kael had been appointed as his replacement. Moon listened as Kael laid out the situation: the attack had been orchestrated by an unknown organization, and Ironpeak needed strong awakeners to survive. Kael offered Moon a position as a high-ranking defender, with resources, training, and a share of the bases profits. Moon considered the offer carefully. The resources would accelerate his growth, and the connections would open doors he could not access alone. But accepting meant tying himself to a base that had already been targeted once. He asked for time to think, and Kael agreed, reminding him that the offer would not remain open indefinitely. Moon left the office, his mind already calculating the risks and rewards, knowing that his next decision would shape the course of his journey.
Moon is offered a position of power in Ironpeak, forcing him to choose between independence and accelerated growth.
Moon began as an orphan and a Null, branded worthless after failing his awakening ceremony. But the system revealed him as a Classless anomaly, free from the restrictions that bind other awakeners. His Grim Reaper talent grants five times the lives from every kill, and his Class Slot allows him to mirror any class he witnesses, learning its skills permanently through comprehension. After being betrayed by his girlfriend Sarah, Moon hardened his heart, vowing never to trust easily. He survived the hidden realm by copying Selene's Elemental Mage class, evolved his skills with thousands of lives, and fought alongside Kael Glassy during the siege of Ironpeak Base. His trump card is his ability to adapt any class on the fly, making him unpredictable and nearly impossible to counter. He now stands at level nineteen with over four thousand lives, a growing arsenal of permanent skills, and a burning desire to become strong enough that no one can ever abandon him again.
Sarah was Moons girlfriend of two years, but their relationship had been deteriorating as she prepared for the awakening ceremony. When she awakened as a Lifebinder, a rare and powerful support class, and Moon failed as a Null, she ended their relationship without hesitation, joining Marcus Millers party instead. Sarah represents the cruel pragmatism of the awakening world, where worth is measured by class and power. She chose status over loyalty, abandoning Moon at his lowest moment. Her role in the story is to serve as the catalyst for Moons emotional hardening, teaching him that trust is a weakness and that survival depends on self-reliance. She has not appeared since the ceremony, but her betrayal continues to shape Moons decisions and his refusal to form genuine connections.
Selene approached Moon in the First Sanctuary, asking to form a team. She appeared to be a simple water mage, but Moon discovered her true class was Elemental Mage, granting her affinity for all four primary elements. She concealed her power to avoid exploitation, but after Moon saved her life multiple times in the hidden realm, she revealed the truth. Selene fought alongside Moon through the frozen wasteland, the temple, and the siege of Ironpeak Base. She is one of the few people Moon has begun to trust, though he still keeps his true Classless nature hidden. Her trump card is her versatility, able to adapt her elemental attacks to any situation. She is currently alive and active, though her whereabouts after the hidden realm are unknown.
