Aliandra Amariel is a Fae research assistant, late for her appointment at the Grand Library Arcana, the world's greatest repository of magical knowledge. She lives in the magnificent underground city of Dal'mohra, a place of wonder where magical vehicles flow through spotless streets and solar orbs provide warmth and light. Ali is unclassed, a fact that weighs heavily on her as she desperately wants to unlock her dream class of Rune Sage. Her life is one of books, study, and the comfortable pursuit of knowledge, a stark contrast to the combat-focused world of warriors and adventurers. She is small, with stunted wings that cannot fly, and she carries the quiet shame of her physical limitation. Her world is safe, ordered, and filled with the promise of a scholarly future.
That future shatters in an instant. During her meeting with Professor Maeria Runeweaver, a cold sepulchral pressure grips the library. A skeleton tears through reality itself, murdering the professor in a brutal, shocking act of violence. Ali flees into a city under siege by the undead, witnessing the fall of everything she knows. Her friend Armand, a Desert Naga guard, sacrifices himself to save her from a giant skeleton. She finds her mother, Elowynn, who reveals the attack is the work of a Lich named Nevyn Eld, a former colleague she once helped. The Lich has returned, corrupted by power, and has turned the three legendary kings of Dal'mohra into his undead servants. Ali's mother, a Guardian of the Realm, uses a legendary spell to freeze time and sacrifice herself, encasing Ali in a protective barrier to save her from the Lich, leaving Ali alone and frozen in time for over three thousand years.
her mother said. All signs of fight had left her eyes as she sat sprawled on the ground at his feet.
I will come with you, Nevyn. Just promise you will not harm Ali,

Her father is dead, her home is gone, and she has gained the mysterious title "Ancient." She is alone, unclassed, and hunted by a monstrous Sewer Rat. In a desperate fight for survival, she uses her Plant Growth cantrip to crush the rat, a moment of cold fury that marks her first real victory. She then faces a pack of Starving Wolves, and is saved at the last moment by a group of strangers: Mato, Calen, and Malika, who have fallen into the cavern from the town of Myrin's Keep above. They are all on their own class trials, and their rescue of Ali changes the course of all their lives.

In a moment of profound generosity, she allows them to use the shrine to unlock their classes. Malika, a street rat forced into a life of crime, is offered only thief-related classes until the shrine unlocks a hidden Soul Magic affinity, revealing her true potential and offering her the rare Soul Monk class. Calen becomes an Archer of Light, and Mato a Druidic Shapeshifter. Ali herself is offered a unique hybrid class, the Grove Warden, which combines her love of knowledge with the combat magic she now needs to survive. This act of sharing her inheritance cements the bond between them, transforming them from strangers into a party of adventurers.

Mato's Primal Rage skill causes him to lose control and attack Ali, a traumatic event that shatters their trust. Ali's domain withdrawal slowly kills her, reducing her health day by day.
