The main hall of Aurora Academy hums with whispers, all of them sharp blades aimed at Ethan Ashford, a young man in a worn uniform. He is twenty, two years late for his coming-of-age ceremony, a public embarrassment to the Ashford family. His stepmother, Selene, and younger half-brother, Ryan, twist the knife, mocking his part-time warehouse job and offering him a "stable" ordinary life, a thinly veiled command to vanish from Ryan's path. Ryan, a genius with an S-rank fire power, flaunts his status, while Ethan, top in theory, has only his hard-earned tuition and a desperate hope for the Blind Box ceremony. This world is a brutal lottery: eighty years ago, Void rifts tore reality apart, unleashing monsters and a strange law. Every adult gets one Blind Box—some get weapons, skills, or powers, others useless trinkets, forever losing their chance to become an Awakened. Luck can overturn everything, but for Ethan, it feels like his luck ran out two years ago. This ceremony is his last, best chance to escape a predetermined life of neglect and scorn.
As Ethan places his hand on the guidance crystal, a violent pain sears his eyes. In the darkness, a white light blazes: [Eye of Truth — rank SSS]. The world changes. He can see through the mist-shrouded Blind Boxes, revealing their contents and rarity. D-rank swords, E-rank skills, C-rank powers—all clearly laid bare. He sees a rank A sword, enough to thrill any student, but Ethan, who has waited two years, does not stop. He narrows his focus, sifting through the common until he spots a dark red Partner Box at the altar's edge. The Eye of Truth strains, the pain in his eyes intensifies, but the information emerges: [Partner: Crimson Dragon Laira], [Actual rarity: SS], [Status: Severely weakened], [Seal: Undetermined]. SS, a tier beyond human records. This is his gamble, his defiance. The host warns him, Ryan sneers, Selene offers a "stable job," and even his ex-girlfriend Claire urges him to choose a safer weapon. Everyone thinks he is throwing his future away on a useless Partner, but Ethan confirms his choice, his expression calm as the dark red box floats towards him. The laughter in the stands swells, oblivious to the colossal pupil that silently opens in the endless darkness, watching him as the box begins to crack.
When you gaze into the Void, the Void gazes back at you.
Blind Box World - SSS-Rank Eye of Truth
The dark red Partner Box cracks open, not with a whimper, but with a roaring pillar of crimson flame that shakes the academy's protective barriers to their third tier. Laughter dies in throats as Ryan's S-rank fire power instinctively recoils in fear. Out of the fire steps Laira, a two-meter-tall woman with long red hair, curved black horns, and colossal dragon wings, her presence radiating an ancient, primal power that makes students' hearts pound and legs shake. The system recalibrates her rarity from S, to Epic, to Legendary, finally settling on Mythic, displaying "Data anomaly detected. Unable to continue analysis. Current display limit: Mythic." The entire hall falls silent, the earlier mockery replaced by disbelief and awe. Selene and Ryan, desperate to control the narrative, immediately accuse Ethan of cheating, demanding an inspection and dismissal of Laira's true rank. Ryan, his voice dripping with contempt, claims Ethan's "tricks" are a pathetic attempt to prove himself, insisting a "fake will always remain a fake." But Laira, oblivious to their schemes, simply walks to Ethan, embraces him, and seals their bond with a kiss, declaring him "her man" and promising to "support" him, shocking everyone even further. This grand, public revelation of his Mythic Partner, Laira, completely upends Ethan's status, instantly transforming him from a mocked outcast into an enigma everyone fears and desires.
Ethan's SSS-rank Eye of Truth reveals a Mythic Partner, Laira, who publicly claims him, utterly shattering his detractors' expectations.
As the initial shock wears off, the true challenge appears: the Heaven's Gate trial. Ethan must choose a difficulty from Normal to Abyss to become an Awakened. Ryan, Selene, and other students goad him, challenging his courage and Laira's strength, urging him to pick Hell or Abyss, hoping he will die. Headmaster Cole advises the safer "Trial" difficulty, but Ethan, guided by Laira's silent, confident smile, chooses Nightmare. However, as he steps into the gate, the space violently glitches, forcing the trial to "Abyss" difficulty. The academy loses control, unable to intervene or retreat him. Inside the Abyss Tower, Ethan and Laira face the first floor's Black Iron tier 5 Berserker Skeleton. Laira, with a casual flick, incinerates it in one small fireball, leaving only ash. Floors two, three, and four fall just as quickly, Laira demonstrating terrifying precision and control, effortlessly destroying entire formations of Skeletons, including a Silver tier 10 Sage Skeleton with "High-level Fire Resistance." Ethan, using his Eye of Truth, pinpoints the Sage Skeleton's critical weakness, allowing Laira to bypass its resistances with a single, precise strike. This display of overwhelming power and their seamless, unspoken coordination silences all doubts, earning Ethan a milestone reward: a guaranteed S-rank or higher Blind Box. He then immediately activates a "concealment mode" for his trial, shielding his Eye of Truth's true function and his subsequent choices from outside observation, knowing this ability is too dangerous to reveal.
Forced into Abyss difficulty, Ethan and Laira's perfect coordination and Laira's overwhelming power, guided by Ethan's Eye of Truth, effortlessly clear five floors, leading to a concealed, powerful reward.
After clearing five floors, Ethan chooses the "Sun-Fire Divine Seal" from his milestone reward, an Epic-tier item perfectly suited to Laira, which amplifies her fire power and has vast growth potential. Soon after, he exits the Abyss Tower, but is unexpectedly thrown into Anomalous Coordinates, a chaotic, unstable realm. Headmaster Cole attempts to contact him, but the signal is weak. Ethan discovers his S-rank Heaven's Gate can uniquely absorb and purify corrupted Void energy from wild crystals, allowing him to level up rapidly. This rapid growth, however, marks him as a beacon to Void creatures. He is soon ambushed by a Void Bone-Wing Dragon. Amidst the chaos, the space locks down, trapping Laira and Ethan. Ethan, using his Eye of Truth, identifies the fireball's "death point" and, in a desperate act, sacrifices his left hand to physically crush the core of the attack, preventing a fatal explosion but suffering horrific Void Fire corruption and losing his hand. He is then "rescued" by Victor Hale, Nolan Greaves, and Mira Vale. But Victor and Nolan, driven by greed for Laira and the "Epic" item, betray Ethan, with Nolan shooting Mira to silence her as a witness. Ethan, despite his grievous injuries, pushes Mira out of the way, taking another bullet to his already ruined arm. Laira, finally breaking free from a temporary bond lock, forces Victor and Nolan to flee, but not before they leave Mira and Ethan behind, critically wounded and stranded, demonstrating the cruel, self-serving nature of humanity's "elites."
Ethan sacrifices his hand to save Laira from a Void Dragon, only to be betrayed by "allies," deepening his injuries and revealing humanity's self-serving cruelty.
Stranded and severely wounded, Ethan and Mira are left to die. Mira, however, chooses to stay and heal Ethan, confessing her forced engagement to Nolan and the systemic oppression she faces, finding unexpected freedom in her choice. Laira, too, is grievously wounded, losing a wing protecting Ethan and gathering crystals. Ethan, with Mira's healing and Laira's protection, relentlessly absorbs the corrupted crystals. He discovers that his S-rank Heaven's Gate not only purifies the energy but also strengthens his body enough to actively suppress the Void Fire consuming his arm. This process, though agonizing, pushes him to Bronze Tier 1. Simultaneously, a new derivative ability of his Eye of Truth activates: Resonance. He can now directly transmit the weak points he sees to Laira's mind, turning them into a perfectly synchronized, deadly fighting unit. The Void Eye, sensing Ethan's rapid growth and his resistance to its influence, intervenes directly, collapsing the entire coordinate to crush them. But with their newfound synergy, Laira, guided by Ethan's resonant sight, fights with renewed ferocity, and they escape the collapsing coordinate, ready to face the world that has betrayed them.
Ethan's desperate leveling and Laira's sacrifice forge a new "Resonance" ability, allowing perfect combat synergy, transforming them into an unstoppable force against the Void's direct intervention.
Once a neglected, mocked student, Ethan's SSS-rank Eye of Truth and Mythic-tier Partner Laira launch him onto a path of power and defiance. Despite facing betrayal, severe injuries, and the world's condemnation, he leverages his unique abilities to rapidly grow stronger, protect his companions, and form an unbreakable bond with Laira. He is driven by a quiet resolve to survive and make those who wronged him pay.
A sealed SS-rank Crimson Dragon, publicly displayed as Mythic, Laira emerges from a Blind Box to become Ethan's fiercely loyal Partner. She possesses overwhelming fire power, ancient knowledge, and a deep, protective affection for Ethan. Despite her own severe injuries and the constraints of a powerful seal, she consistently puts Ethan's safety and well-being above her own, becoming his anchor and his most potent weapon.
Ethan's younger half-brother, a supposed S-rank fire genius, whose envy and insecurity drive him to constantly undermine Ethan. He actively participates in slandering Ethan, sabotages his rescue, and attempts to kill Mira to hide his crimes. His actions stem from a deep fear of being overshadowed and a desperate need to maintain his perceived superiority within the Ashford family.
