The multiverse has been ground to a single lonely existence. The Final Reaper stands at the end of all things, the victor of a war that cost him everything he ever loved. His enemies destroyed everyone he cared about one by one, so he set himself to vengeance and burned out all of reality in the process. Now the system offers him a choice: restart from his initiation, become vulnerable again, let people in. He has not dealt with anyone other than his undead minions for longer than he can track, and he is no longer sure that is even possible. Yet how could he say no to a chance to do better, to save what was lost? He says yes.
The system calculates his dead end results, notes his conquest and titles, and adjusts his template for a new beginning. The Final Reaper wakes up in a bedroom he barely remembers, greeted by a tall leggy redhead named Rissa who was important to him once. He is alive again, pitifully weak, relying on muscle memory instead of individually controlling every aspect of his body. His status screen shows an Altered Template and one hundred percent Luck, a combination he has never seen before. He has two hidden titles: Previous Supreme Existence and Altered Template, both concealed from all but himself. He does not recognize the man in the mirror, lightly tanned with brown hair and green eyes, because the Final Reaper had not been human anymore.
The breakfast is uncomfortable as Thomas struggles to eat normally while Rissa keeps glancing at him. He knows the tutorials will start soon, and he remembers that Rissa was shot in her home right before everything changed. When she mentions seeing flashes of the future, the doorbell rings, and Thomas recognizes the man from the Final Reapers life as Macho, a powerful and ruthless enemy. He opens the door to a pistol pointed at his gut, and in that moment he knows he has already changed Rissas vision by oversleeping and not leaving for work. He can change it more, and not lose her.
Yes.
After the End: Serenity
Thomas pushes forward into the gun, deflecting the barrel and taking a bullet to the chest as he brings Macho down. The fight is brutal and immediate, ending with Machos skull deforming under Thomas backhand. Rissa calls an ambulance, and Thomas checks his injury to find it bleeding freely but not deep. At the hospital, the wound begins to heal visibly within hours, and the doctor gives him a clean bill of health despite expecting cracked ribs and broken bones. Lancaster, an honorable policeman, takes their statements and reveals that Machos name is actually what he went by. As they leave the hospital, the system prompt appears: Welcome to the Multiverse. Do you want to attend the Tutorial? Rissa is staring at the air in front of her, pale and worried, and Thomas touches her shoulder. Say yes, he tells her. We will be in the same Tutorial. She looks startled, then angry, then collapses in laughter. It takes her a couple of minutes to recover enough to agree.
Thomas saves Rissa from her foreseen death and enters the Tutorial with her, altering the timeline.
Thomas chooses the name Serenity, a recognized title that carries over from his previous existence, and feels a ripple run through reality as he selects it. The tutorial guide explains the basics of paths and tiers, and Serenity realizes he has forgotten much of what he should know. He finds Lancaster at the trial area and convinces him to join their group, but when he loses control of his aura and projects his pain to everyone nearby, Lancaster demands to know what the hell he is. Serenity explains the dream, the future he remembers, and the fact that he managed to take out the guy that killed Lancaster in the previous timeline. Lancaster laughs and agrees to work together, though he remains suspicious. The first trial is a dungeon full of slimes, and Serenity leads the group through it efficiently, but when he dives into the boss slime to retrieve its core, the acid dissolves his eyes. He heals them back using his strange new abilities, and the group moves on to fight goblins, then skeletons, then dream blossoms that make him evolve the ability to send himself to sleep and wake at will.
Serenity establishes his identity and gains allies while discovering his body is changing in monstrous ways.
An instructor named Entherys and a cleanser named Margrethe conspire to kill Serenity, believing him to be an abomination that will inevitably go insane and destroy everything he loves. Margrethe shoots him in the head with an arrow, and he survives only because his body develops runic shielding tattoos that activate when he is about to die. The attacks continue: Raymond throws a curse pillow that locks his leg, Macho and Entherys ambush him and Echo outside the camp, and Serenity kills Raymond and cripples Entherys before Doyle arrives to help. He interrogates Entherys by appealing to the Voice, and learns that Margrethe is the archer. When he confronts her, she explains her duty to kill abominations, but the Voice has protected him because he is a good-natured chimera with a high likelihood of encouraging local and extended success. Serenity reveals that he already has a Core, that it is Unique, and that sundering it would kill him. Margrethe agrees to stop trying to kill him without talking first, and Serenity gains a follower named Moira who swore fealty while corrupted by skeleton cores.
Serenity survives multiple assassination attempts, reveals his monstrous nature, and gains a sworn follower while making peace with his would-be killer.
Serenity and his group enter the Great Tutorial Dungeon, fighting through levels of insects, undead, and shadow wolves. On the fifth level, a city overrun with vampires, Serenity is forced to unleash his damaged Death Aspect to save Rissa from a pair of intelligent vampires. The Aspect consumes all undead on the level, but leaves Serenity in a coma, his body transforming into an egg. He awakens in a vision of the Dragon Conclave, where the Eldest dragon Althyr offers to become his mentor and grants protection from other dragons. Serenity accepts, becoming an Essence Dragon Chimera with a new Path called Death-Eater. He hatches from the egg as a small dragon, then uses his Basic Draconic Shapeshift to return to a humanoid form with scales, wings, and claws. The group completes the level, gaining enchanted armor and a cloak of disguise, and Serenity discovers he can no longer eat normal food, only Death-attuned essence. He must survive until the end of the Tutorial or find another solution to his hunger.
Serenity transforms into an Essence Dragon Chimera, gains a mentor, and faces a new existential threat from his dietary restrictions.
Serenity is the reborn Final Reaper who destroyed the multiverse and chose to restart from his initiation to save his world. He carries the memories of millenia of combat and necromancy, but is determined not to repeat his old path of isolation and vengeance. He gains allies, a sworn follower, and a dragon mentor while struggling with his monstrous transformations and the hunger that comes from being a Death-Eater. His core is Unique, his Path is new, and his Aspect is damaged and healing. He must survive the Tutorial and find a way to feed himself without losing his humanity.
Rissa is a Talent with Time and Mind affinities who foresaw her own death at Machos hands. Serenity saved her, but his transformation from Thomas into a different person caused her to break up with him, unable to reconcile the man she loved with the stranger wearing his face. She later reconciles with Serenity after realizing he is her Child of Time, the one who can unbind Fate. She takes the Path Time Heals All and becomes the groups healer and support, using her visions to guide them through danger.
Echo is the youngest person in the Tutorial at sixteen, but she has a hard life behind her. She escaped an abusive home and found refuge with her aunt before the integration. She takes the Path The Sound of Silence, using sonar and sonic attacks to scout and fight. She becomes Serenitys closest friend and the groups moral center, keeping spirits high and mediating conflicts. She has a knack for reading people and uncovering secrets, and she is fiercely loyal to Serenity and the group.
