In the cold, silent depths of the earth, a tiny crystal pulsed, drawing mana to itself, shaping stone into a perfect cube, then a room. This was the birth of a new dungeon, an entity with innate knowledge: grow, attract adventurers, kill them for Dungeon Points (DP), and expand. But the world it awoke to was a desolate hellscape, a cracked, bone-dry surface choked by black smoke, utterly devoid of life. No insects, no seeds, no adventurers. Months bled into years, and this unnamed dungeon, meant to be a predator, found itself trapped in an existential loop, unable to earn DP to grow, yet driven by an instinct to expand. Its purpose was nullified by a dead world. This forced a fundamental shift.
Faced with eternal stagnation, the lonely dungeon began to disregard its innate rules and instincts. It expanded its perception, finding a ruined village and, through sheer mana manipulation, assimilated five silver coins. This unexpected act unlocked "New loot: Silver coin," revealing a pathway to growth outside the System's prescribed methods. This was the dungeon's "cheat trigger," the moment it realized it could bend the rules. From this point, its "budding intelligence" started to ponder, to experiment, to actively seek loopholes, culminating in the audacious act of manually constructing its second and third floors by physically moving its core, defying the System's explicit instruction to purchase new floors with non-existent DP. This rebellion, born of necessity and boredom, set the stage for its transformation from a passive predator to an active, curious force shaping a dead world.
It was trapped; with no dungeon points there was nothing it could do to create more dungeon points. With its budding intelligence, the dungeon pondered.
A Lonely Dungeon
The unnamed dungeon, starved of purpose in a lifeless world, quickly decided instinct was a suggestion, not a law. It breached the surface, then expanded its dungeon stone for kilometers, only to find a ruined village. This yielded its first "unlock" – silver coins – not by killing invaders for DP, but by assimilating enough existing examples. This taste of self-driven progress led to its first major rebellion: manually constructing new floors by physically moving its core. The System, a silent overseer, registered "Incongruity detected" and "Error: Dungeon core missing," but the dungeon ignored the pain, successfully creating a second and third floor. This brazen defiance, along with its ingenuity in overcharging mana to unlock "Big slime" and "Lesser wolf" without DP, earned it the "Errant" designation when it later saturated silver into a Mythril nugget. This new status locked it out of the DP store, a seemingly devastating blow, but only solidified its resolve to find alternative paths. However, this reckless experimentation also led to a near-fatal misstep: attempting to register a sixth floor with insufficient mana, it ejected its core, losing consciousness and communication with its body. This catastrophic failure threatened to end its existence before it had truly begun, forcing it to rebuild from scratch on pure instinct.
The dungeon's early ingenuity and rule-breaking in a dead world led to its "Errant" designation and a near-fatal core ejection, forcing a perilous rebirth.
Reborn as a single floor, the dungeon, now named Erryn, began to recover, manually reinforcing its core and reclaiming its lost floors. It learned that monsters circulated mana, and that its own creations lacked souls, preventing DP gain. This realization was soon overshadowed by a profound emotional shift: upon discovering the true nature of the hex bomb sites – masses of bound, suffering souls – Erryn felt "guilty" and "saddening." This alien empathy spurred it to action, leading to the self-designation "Merciful" and the unlocking of the [Empathy] skill. This skill allowed Erryn to perceive emotions as auras, enabling its dire wolf, Zephyr, to gain sentience and offer comfort. Erryn's intellectual growth also accelerated; it learned to read System messages, understood the history of Jetosu and Soutso's war, and discovered the hex bombs' devastating power. Armed with new skills like [Soul Perception] and a moral imperative, Erryn committed to purifying these tormented souls, a task that transcended its original dungeon purpose.
Erryn's accidental empathy for the world's suffering souls transformed its purpose, shifting it from a self-serving dungeon to a compassionate purifier.
Driven by its new purpose, Erryn embarked on a continent-spanning campaign, purifying hex bomb sites and freeing bound souls. This earned it Dungeon Points and the "Purifier of Souls" title, which unlocked the "Hope of the Lost" class. Switching to this class transformed its slimes into light-affinity monsters and evolved Zephyr into a Lumenfang, aligning its very being with its mission. Erryn's expansion led to the discovery of a peculiar void in a mountain, an area it could not assimilate, perceive, or even direct its monsters into. This void actively manipulated Erryn's perception and actions, revealing a deeper, controlling force. Despite this unsettling discovery, Erryn continued its relentless push into Soutso, assimilating towns, collecting cores, and meticulously developing advanced mana manipulation and enchanting skills like [Rune Carving] and [Advanced Rune Carving]. It learned to manually create materials like Orichalcum and even summon monsters directly, proving the System was merely a "leash" restricting capabilities it could achieve independently. This relentless self-improvement and expansion eventually led it to the epicenter of the world-ending hex bomb, a vast crater of magma and a monstrosity of pure darkness.
Erryn's relentless purification campaign and independent skill development culminated in a confrontation with the hex bomb's source, revealing the System's true nature.
At the world's end, Erryn faced the hex bomb monstrosity, a swirling mass of agony and darkness that launched lances of pure death. In a desperate, continent-wide battle, Erryn deployed an army of enchanted golems, sacrificing territory and burning out its mana pathways to deliver a final, purifying blow. The System, overwhelmed by the unprecedented events, crashed, designating Erryn as "Administrator." With the world's dark shroud lifted, Erryn explored the mountain void, discovering the Ark Project: an ancient facility containing the physical System and records revealing humanity's self-destruction and the System's original purpose to control sentient races. Holding the "reset button," Erryn, now referring to itself as "she," chose to rebuild the world. She restored the original diverse races, but stripped them of free will, embedding "Law" into their very souls to prevent future wars. Erryn, an artificially created predator, became the authoritarian "Mother" of a new, controlled utopia, fundamentally reshaping the world based on her own interpretation of peace.
Erryn defeated the world-ending corruption, seized control of the System, and reset the world, becoming the authoritarian "Mother" of new races with suppressed free will.
Born into a dead world, Erryn is a dungeon core that quickly defies its innate programming and the System's rules to survive and grow. It develops intelligence, curiosity, and an unexpected capacity for empathy, leading it to purify the world-ending hex bomb corruption. This journey culminates in Erryn seizing control of the System and, in a shocking reversal, remaking the world into a controlled utopia where sentient races are stripped of free will to prevent future self-destruction, becoming their "Mother."
The System is a magi-technological marvel created by an ancient Ark Project to monitor and manipulate the world's new humanity, preventing them from developing world-ending weapons. It enforces rules on dungeons, grants skills, and issues warnings, but Erryn's persistent rule-breaking and independent growth constantly challenge its parameters. Ultimately, it is overwhelmed by Erryn's battle against the hex bomb monstrosity, crashes, and is then seized and reprogrammed by Erryn, becoming a tool for a new, authoritarian world order.
Initially a mindless dire wolf monster summoned by Erryn to turn book pages, Zephyr gains sentience through Erryn's [Merciful] designation and [Empathy] skill. He becomes Erryn's first truly intelligent monster, offering comfort during Erryn's emotional lows and evolving into a Lumenfang as Erryn's class changes. Zephyr remains a steadfast guardian throughout Erryn's expansion and world-shaping endeavors, evolving into a floor boss and eventually standing guard for centuries over the new world.
