The simulation is governed by an autonomous security system designed to prevent Aegis from abusing the SuperAI. This system later manifests as the Exe, also known as Agent Lawson. Morph is a military superdrug that enhances combat ability, stamina, sexual performance, and recovery. The Danger Level ranges from 0 to 10. At level 10, the Exe intervenes and the mission is terminated. Key fragments unlock a vault, and the final access codes unlock the SuperAI itself. The HNS app is a decentralized crime network with Slayers, Phantoms, contracts, prestige, debt, and anonymity.
Institutional power in New Zhine City is dominated by the Zhine family through ZAG, Zhine Bank, Fort Zhine, Raise a Glass, Night Beats, and the CBF laboratory. The police are compromised, crime families operate openly, and PMCs exert covert influence. Social norms blend extreme wealth, criminal loyalty, nightlife, adult entertainment, masquerades, and charity events used as fronts. Active systems include the Browser, Jobs, HangOut, Activity, Messages, Navigation, Morph doses, exploration phases, relaxation cycles, dates, heists, and danger-level manipulation.

The mid-game climax arrives at Fort Zhine during the masquerade. HNS attacks, key fragments are contested, the mansion is destroyed, and Hector flees with Lawson. Harlow is captured and injected with a compound that links him to critical failure. Lawson reveals himself as the Exe and as Harlow's father in program form. Harlow enters critical failure, faces god-mode trials, and either takes control of Aegis, destroys the SuperAI, or follows an alternate ending route. The final outcome depends on his choices with the Hearts and the faction he ultimately serves.
